The Role
The Business Development Manager (BDM) plays a pivotal role in expanding our NGO customer base and rekindling relationships with former clients on a continental (Africa & Middle East) scale. This entails proactive business development efforts, dedicated customer relationship management, and the effective execution of our sales strategy. The BDM will operate as a respected consultant on menstrual health & hygiene by advising our (future) partners on menstrual health programming while showcasing AFRIpads’ relevance for those.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the development, expansion, and oversight of sales activities within your designated region as well as within new markets. Your role will encompass the management of crucial relationships with key accounts, including NGOs and UN Agencies. Leveraging your expertise, you will contribute to the refinement and implementation of our B2B sales strategy, focusing on nurturing existing client connections and exploring new opportunities within your market scope as well in new markets.
Collaboration with our Partnerships team, responsible for executing commercial partnerships and CSR strategy, will be integral to ensure a cohesive approach to business development and relationship management. Your efforts will be instrumental in driving growth and success in both existing and untapped markets.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
● Managing shifting priorities and handling competing demands within a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
● Passion for social development and economic growth in the African context
● Robust negotiation skills, influencing capabilities, and analytical acumen
● Willingness to adapt to flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and enthusiasm for extensive travel across Africa
● Excel in client relationship management, sales, and customer service, with the ability to surpass sales targets
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a high proficiency in written (email) correspondence and strong presentation abilities. Mastery of English, both written and oral, is imperative
● Proven ability to strategically organize and plan tasks independently, with meticulous attention to detail
● Possess complete proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Salesforce or other sales management tools
● Ability to interact professionally and with sensitivity across culturally diverse staff and customers.
●Uphold a strong work ethic, coupled with good moral judgment.
Preferred: in depth knowledge of NGO and international agency / UN dynamics
Hiring Information
Our main offices are located in Kampala, Uganda and Nairobi, Kenya. The role reports to the Chief Commercial Officer.
