We are seeking an Animal Care Technician to join Aspect’s In Vivo team. This role involves providing essential husbandry and technical in vivo support across various research programs. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply animal care skills whilst contributing to groundbreaking research programs at Aspect Biosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Complete scheduled health observations, assessments, and supportive care, update online data spreadsheets, and promptly report any observed animal anomalies.
  • Perform restraint, handling, dosing (IP, SQ, or IV), blood sampling, post-operative care and monitoring.
  • Assist scientists with surgery and other related animal techniques.
  • Perform necropsy and tissue collections and ensure samples delivery in a timely manner.
  • Execute study-related husbandry duties to ensure proper animal care practices.
  • Maintain accurate records, including animal monitoring sheets, room logs, health reports, cage cards, autoclave logs, and other required documents.
  • Monitor and maintain facility consumables to ensure optimal day-to-day operations.
  • Participate in experimental preparation, set up and take down.
  • Ensure biosecurity controls, including cleaning and sanitizing the animal facility and equipment, environmental monitoring.
  • Adhere and comply with all standard operating procedures, safety measures, and quality assurance standards pertaining to the animal facility.

Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma or BSc in a relevant discipline.
  • Professional Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a research laboratory with working knowledge of animal-related standards, CCAC guidelines, and federal, provincial, and local requirements is preferred.
  • Required Certification: Completion of UBC animal care training and lab rodent courses.

The hiring range for this role is $53,000 - $63,000, annually. Our ranges are based on market data. Offered salaries will be based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. For candidates who exceed role requirements, we are open to exploring above-range offers. Note that base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Aspect.
