Our client Carbon Upcycling is hiring a Process Specialist to support the commissioning, startup, and optimization of its first commercial-scale plant in Mississauga, Ontario.

This role will provide hands-on technical support during plant startup and stabilization, including troubleshooting, technician training, process optimization, and development of operating procedures. We are open to experienced industrial process specialists as well as junior technical engineers with strong field exposure and commissioning aptitude.

What You'll Be Doing

Process Support

  • Provide technical support for VRM, reactor, material handling, and related process systems
  • Support commissioning, startup, shutdown, restart, and stabilization activities
  • Monitor process performance and identify opportunities for optimization and improvement
  • Troubleshoot process instability, alarms, trips, plugging, flow restrictions, and quality variation
  • Support troubleshooting of process equipment, instrumentation, and control systems
  • Help establish stable operating practices and process control strategies

Training & Competency Development

  • Train technicians on plant systems, process flow, operating limits, and equipment functionality
  • Provide hands-on coaching in both field and control room environments
  • Support technicians understanding of alarms, interlocks, process reactions, and abnormal operating conditions
  • Assist with development of competency checklists and training materials
  • Mentor operators during startup, shutdown, upset conditions, and troubleshooting activities

Procedure & SOP Development

  • Support development and improvement of operating procedures and SOPs
  • Provide input for startup, shutdown, emergency response, and troubleshooting procedures
  • Help standardize operating philosophies and best practices
  • Support lessons learned reviews following commissioning events or process upsets

Operational Support

  • Reports to the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor to support daily plant execution
  • Participate in troubleshooting discussions, shift handovers, and operational planning meetings
  • Support technicians during plant operation while reinforcing operational discipline and consistency
  • Assist with root cause analysis investigations and corrective action development
  • Other related duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in cement, grinding, milling, pyro-processing, reactor systems, minerals processing, chemical processing, or similar industrial environments
  • Strong understanding of industrial process systems, process control, and equipment operation
  • Experience troubleshooting process-related issues within operating industrial facilities
  • Ability to train, coach, and communicate technical concepts clearly
  • Comfortable working hands-on in both field and control room environments
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting skills
  • Junior technical engineers with strong industrial field exposure and commissioning aptitude are encouraged to apply

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with VRM (Vertical Roller Mill) systems
  • Cement plant operating experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience with reactor systems or industrial process vessels
  • Experience supporting commissioning, startup, and plant ramp-up activities
  • Experience working with DCS/control room systems, alarms, interlocks, and process trending
  • Experience developing SOPs, technician training programs, and operating philosophies
  • Experience in heavy industrial environments such as cement, mining, chemicals, energy, steel, or manufacturing
  • Journeyman ticket in Millwrighting, Electrical, Welding, Instrumentation, Power Engineering, or related industrial trades is considered an asset
