Position Description
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accuracy of COGS and inventory. This role plays a critical part in financial operations, ensuring strong internal controls and compliance with company policies. The position works closely with the Senior Accountant to ensure seamless financial and inventory management processes.
Inventory Management
● Oversee inventory tracking and reconciliation to maintain accurate records.
● Conduct regular inventory audits to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
● Support procurement by ensuring timely payments and monitoring stock replenishment.
● Work with the finance and supply chain teams to align inventory valuation with financial reporting.
Cost of Goods Sold
● Manage a structure landed costing process with high degree of accuracy.
● Manage productivity savings within operations to offset inflationary cost increases.
● Ensure accuracy on actual product costing and monthly COGS reporting.
Reconciliation and Reporting
● Analyze planned vs actual cost variances and ensure timely reporting of the drivers.
● Prepare and reconcile cash, bank accounts, and inventory records.
● Assist the Senior Accountant in generating reports related to cash flow and inventory status.
● Identify and escalate risks related to cash handling and inventory management.
Internal Controls and Compliance
● Implement and monitor internal controls related to inventory processes.
● Ensure compliance with company financial policies, local tax laws, and statutory regulations.
● Support audit processes by providing necessary documentation and reconciliations.
Requirements
Desired Skills and Experience
Education
● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
● CPA (K), ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional qualification.
Experience
● Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting, inventory control, or a similar role.
● Experience working with inventory management software.
● Familiarity with MBC ERP system and Vena is an advantage.
● Knowledge of Kenyan tax regulations is a plus.
