Position Summary: Francis Energy is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to lead and evolve our accounting function as we continue to scale rapidly across multiple markets. This role will be responsible for the integrity of our financials while also building processes, systems, and team capabilities that support real-time, operational decision-making.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in building environments - balancing technical accounting expertise with a strong operational mindset. You will partner closely with Finance, Operations, and cross-functional leaders to ensure our accounting function not only reports the business accurately but actively supports how the business runs. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys creating structure in ambiguity, improving processes, and developing people not just maintaining the status quo.
Accounting Operations & Close:
- Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance
- Oversee general accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Perform variance analysis and provide insights into financial performance and trends
- Support leadership with clear, actionable financial reporting to drive decision-making
- Partner with FP&A and Finance to ensure alignment between actuals, forecasts, and operational performance
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and manage audit processes
- Prepare audit schedules and ensure readiness for annual financial audits
- Research and document accounting treatment for complex or new transactions (e.g., ASC 606, ASC 842)
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and evolving accounting standards
Operational Partnership:
- Partner with Operations and Project Teams to improve visibility into:
- Project economics
- Cost tracking and margins
- Capital expenditures and asset management
- Support and oversee state DOT reimbursements and federal funding processes (NEVI and similar programs)
- Translate financial data into clear insights for non-finance stakeholders
Systems & Process Improvement:
- Own and continuously improve accounting systems, workflows, and data integrity
- Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable, automated solutions
- Support system implementations, upgrades, and integrations as the company grows
- Build processes that improve timeliness, accuracy, and usability of financial data
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage and mentor members of the accounting team, fostering accountability, growth, and development
- Establish clear expectations, workflows, and performance standards
- Support hiring and scaling of the accounting function as the organization grows
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (public accounting or high-growth environment preferred)
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, including ASC 606 and ASC 842
- Experience leading or supporting month-end close and audit processes
- Familiarity with fixed asset management and project-based accounting
- Experience with government funding, grants, or reimbursements is a plus
- Advanced proficiency in accounting systems and Excel
