We’re enabling the energy transition to a cleaner, more reliable electricity grid, and invite you to be at the forefront of this groundbreaking journey.

Why Hydrostor?

Our cutting-edge A-CAES technology is uniquely positioned to revolutionize the energy landscape. Join us as we lead the way in shaping a greener, more sustainable future.

Your Mission:

Hydrostor is seeking a Legal Counsel to join the team at its Melbourne office. Reporting directly to Hydrostor's General Counsel in Toronto and working closely with Hydrostor’s Australian Origination & Development and project teams in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, the Legal Counsel will be responsible for a range of legal matters that Hydrostor navigates as it develops, finances, builds and operates the 200 MW/1,600 MWh Silver City A-CAES project at Broken Hill, NSW, expected to move into construction in early 2025 – and continues to develop a strong pipeline of projects in Australia.

This is an exciting opportunity to grow with Hydrostor as it leads the development and implementation of a key piece of the global green energy transition.

Your Day-to-Day Adventures:

  • Providing support to project development, commercial and technical teams, in areas including negotiating strategic agreements (including procurement contracts, EPC contracts, land control agreements, PPAs, etc.)
  • Working as a part of a team with a wide variety of other functional areas across the business
  • Managing and supporting external counsel for project development, project financing and construction
  • Drafting and reviewing corporate and commercial agreements, including confidentiality agreements
  • Drafting and reviewing term sheets, joint development agreements and other joint venture agreements
  • Preparing corporate documents and resolutions for Hydrostor’s Australian subsidiaries and joint ventures
  • Day-to-day general legal advice, identifying key issues and providing practical advice
  • Supporting the development of Hydrostor's policy frameworks
  • Other duties as may be assigned or required, including ad hoc requests

Who You Are

The ideal candidate is an energetic and commercially minded lawyer keen to further develop your skills to support Australia’s energy transition. Your time in practice has introduced you how large projects come together and has helped develop your attention to detail and drafting skill. A team player, you enjoy learning and will thrive in the opportunity to be embedded in cross-functional teams of highly educated professionals bringing different perspectives to developing Hydrostor's megaprojects. You will be motivated to take ownership of our collective work, both metaphorically and through participation in Hydrostor's share option plan, while contributing meaningfully to the green energy future.

What You Bring:

  • 3 to 5 years' corporate and commercial law experience with a leading law firm or company in Australia
  • Experience with electricity generation, transmission or storage projects
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to roll up your sleeves and get things done
  • Solid Interpersonal skills, recognizing the importance of building relationships
