Your Mission
Hydrostor is looking for an Early-Stage Development Manager – North America, who will play a pivotal role in the company’s growth aspirations in the North American market. They will support early-stage development opportunities while working with the Vice President – Origination and other Commercial team members to establish and accelerate the progress of new opportunities and their business cases. They will assist in advancing Hydrostor’s activities in multiple North American markets necessary to bring projects to financial close and into the execution phase.
Your Day-to-Day Adventures
- Support the North American early-stage development activities for Hydrostor to build out an advanced pipeline of opportunities for its Advanced CAES technology, and advance these projects towards financial close in conjunction with the technical delivery team.
- Initial focus will be on the priority markets in the South-West (e.g. California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado); Northeast (e.g. New York)); Pacific North-West (Washington, Oregon) and others to be defined as needed.
- Perform site suitability analysis, which will include identifying land parcels appropriate for Hydrostor’s Advanced CAES, considering factors such as geotechnical, environmental screening, interconnection assessment, and other relevant criteria.
- Outreach (virtual and in-person) to local landowners and other relevant stakeholders.
- Other key activities will include assisting with the project commercialization strategy, negotiating land control-related agreements, collaborating with other members of the broader Hydrostor team as needed (geotechnical, technical, finance, etc.), and managing and reviewing consultants’ deliverables.
- Significant travel within North America and reasonable travel to the head office in Toronto required.
- Other responsibilities as required.
Who You Are:
The ideal candidate will have experience developing large-scale power project opportunities (ideally as conventional or large-scale renewables/storage) in North America. They will be an energetic and motivated team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced, growing environment. They will demonstrate a willingness to take initiative, be performance-driven, and take accountability for areas under their responsibility. The candidate must have a “roll up the sleeves” mentality, strong strategic oversight, and people management skills. Critical thinking and sound judgment will be necessary as will understanding the development processes and various markets required for shaping the strategy for various opportunities in North America and executing that strategy through successful origination and early-stage development. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic and be able to succeed in an environment with many concurrent projects and deadlines.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree (business or engineering with environmental studies preferred).
- Advanced degrees would be considered an asset (MBA preferred).
- Understanding of power markets, especially in North America, is required.
- Prior project development experience, particularly land control agreements, securing environmental and land entitlement permit approvals, obtaining project easements, facilitating engineering studies and assisting with project commercialization for conventional power infrastructure and/or energy storage.
- Experience working in government or have facilitated or negotiated land use policy in favor of the renewable energy and storage sectors.
- Strong desire to join a high-growth company with an entrepreneurial spirit and a fast-paced, results-oriented culture.
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
- Experience coordinating public policy letters or working with lobbyists to achieve policy change to support industry needs.
- Critical thinker who takes initiative with little supervision and has a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work as part of a team, particularly the project development and regulatory teams.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously and independently.
- Strong MS Office skills – mainly PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
Compensation Details
- Salary $100,000 - $160,000
