We are seeking a highly experienced leader for the Director of Operations and Maintenance to drive the establishment of our operations and maintenance function and ensure the successful execution of our emerging portfolio of projects, starting with the Silver City project in Broken Hill, Australia.
This role will involve developing and implementing operational strategies, ensuring safe, efficient, and economical project operations, optimising asset performance, and driving continuous improvement. A key responsibility will be to develop the Operations and Maintenance and Asset Management functions while the Silver City Project is under construction, ensuring a smooth transition to operations.
Day-to-Day Adventures
Operations and Maintenance Development:
- Develop and implement long-term operational strategies aligned with Hydrostor's overall business objectives and market contracts.
- Develop comprehensive operations and maintenance plans for the Silver City project, including procedures, schedules, and resource requirements.
- Establish asset management strategies and systems to track equipment performance and maintenance needs.
- Develop market interfacing requirements and compliance plans to ensure the project(s) are meeting the requirements to be active in the National Electricity Market.
Outsourcing Management:
- Manage the contracting and outsourcing of operations and maintenance services, ensuring alignment with Hydrostor's strategy, standards, requirements and commercial agreement obligations.
- Manager the Long-term Service Agreements implementation with key OEM suppliers.
- Develop and implement performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for outsourced service providers.
- Plan, procure, onboard, monitor and evaluate the performance of outsourced service providers.
Operational Excellence:
- Develop a robust training and competency framework for operations and maintenance personnel.
- Analyse operational data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential risks.
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of A-CAES facilities, adhering to all regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Manage spare parts inventory and procurement to support efficient operations.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Develop and implement operational performance metrics and KPIs aligned with the energy storage, project development agreements and stakeholder expectations.
- Track and report on key operational performance metrics, including availability, reliability, and efficiency.
- Stay up to date on industry trends and technologies to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management and stakeholders.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement compliance programs and procedures.
- Manage relationships with regulatory authorities.
Project Management:
- Oversee the operational aspects of new project development and implementation.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement, identifying and implementing innovative solutions to enhance operational performance.
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure a smooth transition from, Development to construction and commissioning, to operations.
- Provide operational input during the design and construction phases of new projects.
Candidate/Employee Overview:
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and results-oriented individual with a passion for operational excellence. Our preferred candidate will have a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with operating Mechanical and Electrical equipment involved A-CAES projects and the ability to lead and manage teams of staff and contractors, to achieve exceptional results.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, operations management, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in operations and maintenance management role within the energy generation, renewables, or the oil and gas industry.
- Proven experience managing operations and maintenance teams on large scale plants or assets.
- Experience in operating network connected assets would be advantageous.
- Strong contract management experience with market leading partners and multiple contracting models.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry best practices for operations and maintenance strategy development of projects in the development phase.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Proven track record of driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy combined with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
