Your Mission:

This role will require experience with at least some of the range of disciplines: Structural, Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls and Civil; and will support the Silver City Project in Broken Hill as part of the Hydrostor Owners’ Team working within the construction teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the various packages of the energy storage project are designed, procured, and completed on time, within budget, and in adherence to or exceeding industry quality and safety standards. They will play a key role in overseeing pre-financial close coordination of workstreams (both technical and non-technical), construction readiness, and field coordination and management both pre-financial close and during the construction phase.

The individual will act as the conduit between the on-site construction or field teams and the integrated project team, ensuring smooth communication and alignment of goals. They will be responsible for managing contractor relationships, field activities, and ensuring all site operations are conducted safely and efficiently.

Your Day-to-Day Adventures:

Project Leadership

  • Work as part of the Hydrostor team to successfully deliver the project ensuring adherence to project timelines, budget and quality standards.
  • Support the Hydrostor project leadership on site, providing strategic insights and management to facilitate seamless vendor management and construction delivery with the vendors, design and construction partners.
  • Implement project plans, resolve issues promptly and maintain a unified approach to project execution.

Field Coordination

  • Act as the primary point of contact between on-site vendors / construction teams and the integrated project team.
  • Monitor field activities to ensure adherence to project scope, budget, and timelines.
  • Ensure smooth communication and reporting between field teams and the project owners.
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure quality control and compliance with safety standards and deliverables.
  • Facilitate resolution of on-site issues and provide real-time feedback to the project management team.
  • Manage site-based meetings and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure alignment between contractors, subcontractors, and the owner's team.

Late-stage development

  • Oversee and track progress of various workstreams (technical and non-technical).
  • Coordinate with different departments and stakeholders to ensure alignment and resolve any roadblocks.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of documentation for financial close.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Organize and lead regular meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update project schedules, risk registers, and key project documentation.
  • Review the constructability of the project and suggest opportunities to improve costs, efficiencies, productivity and scheduling.
  • Develop construction readiness plans to ensure construction execution is a success.

Construction Execution

  • Monitor construction activities to ensure all work meets the project specifications, quality specifications, quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Track and report on project progress, identifying any deviations from the plan and implementing correction actions as necessary with the construction partner.
  • Address and resolve any issues that arise on-site, coordinating with contractor and other stakeholders to ensure swift effective solutions.
  • Ensuring that project goals and objectives are met and that the interests of Hydrostor are upheld throughout the construction process.

Project Controls

  • Work with the construction team ensuring the works adherence to project timelines, budget and quality standards.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders to support project objectives and address concerns promptly.

Team Management

  • Provide leadership and guidance to a project team, including engineers, contractors and support staff, to ensure compliance with project objectives and Hydrostor standards.

Risk Management

  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation plans and strategies to minimise project disruptions and maximise opportunities to improve on CAPEX, schedule and performance while maintaining a high level of safety.
  • Participate in the implementation and management of the Project Risk & Opportunities Register.

Contract Management

  • Monitor contractor/supplier performance and compliance, providing guidance and support to construction partners as needed.
  • Ensure contracts are executed effectively in line with their terms and conditions that support project success and minimises risks.
  • Support and manage procurement of materials and services required for the project.

Candidate/Employee Overview:

Your background demonstrates a strong track record of successfully delivering work scopes on time and within budget. You possess effective leadership and communication skills, which enable you to effectively manage a team and navigate stakeholder relationships.

You adept at handling the unique challenges these projects present. You are familiar with relevant regulations and standards governing construction, ensuring compliance and maintaining the highest safety standards.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical) or a related field.
  • Project management certification or extensive experience in construction management.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in project engineering, project coordination or construction management roles, preferably in the energy, mining resources, industrial sectors.
  • Experience with large-scale projects, particularly those involving complex coordination across multiple workstreams and phases.
  • Prior experience in construction and site-based project work, with a solid understanding of fieldwork and contractor management.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance processes for energy or construction projects.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with proven ability to effectively manage multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders and managing relationships between site teams and project owners.
  • This role will require a significant level travel (up to 40%), some travel will be required prior to Financial Close, this travel consists of travel to site, to contractor / vendor locations, and other Hydrostor office locations as required. During the construction phase there will be a regular requirement to travel to Broken Hill and be present at site for extended periods, as well as other stakeholder, contractor, vendor and Hydrostor locations.
