Your Mission:
As the Lead / Senior Control Systems Engineer at Hydrostor, you will contribute to a dynamic engineering team responsible for delivering technical power system solutions to meet project requirements efficiently and cost-effectively, first for Silver City then subsequent major projects.
Reporting directly to the Director of Power Systems, you will work closely with the project technical team to ensure the successful development and execution of projects, taking the project through the design development phases and into construction. You will be responsible for the coordination of EIC design activities internally, and leading/coordinating the efforts of external project partners, consultants, suppliers and key stakeholders.
The role will be responsible for design development of the Electrical and control architecture and related design for power demand and generation management as well as the operation of the overall Facility (Balance of Plant).
As the Lead / Senior Control Systems Engineer you will be responsible for engineering throughout the lifecycle of a product/project, as both an individual on projects and as part of a product team.
This includes the following-
- Evaluation of existing systems
- Control system design and programming
- Control panel design
- Development of Bill of Material (BOM)
- DCS/PLC programming
- HMI programming
- Communication network design
- System documentation and manuals
- Customer witnessed FactoryAcceptance Tests (FAT)
- Onsite Installation Supervision (as required)
- Onsite Commissioning and SAT Testing
- Loop testing of new system
- System Start-Up
- Customer Training
- Life-Cycle support to customer
Your Day-to-Day Adventures:
- Work highly collaboratively with internal project teams and external design/ EPC partners through the development and delivery process so that design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning meet the technology needs of Hydrostor and the time, cost, safety and other requirements of each project
- Engage with external project stakeholders and providers to define and meet key power system and grid connection requirements for the project.
- With internal teams and external design resources, drive and deliver cost effective technical solutions for HV, MV and LV solutions including power and plant control systems.
- Coordinate with multi-center engineering teams to ensure seamless collaboration.
- Define technical requirements and oversee product realization from implementation to operation.
- Manage technical management processes, including requirements, interfaces, risk, and configuration.
- Maintain strong technical relationships with contractors and third-party vendors.
- Own detailed engineering planning and execution, ensuring adherence to cost and schedule.
- Ensure engineering services comply with corporate standards, specifications, and legislation.
- Monitor, explain, and resolve deviations from the early engineering baseline.
- Collaborate with systems engineering to address changes in specifications or product requirements.
- Align engineering schedules with procurement activities, package supply, and fabrication.
- Manage time, cost and quality requirements to meet project schedule and technical outcomes
- Participate in technical audits to ensure quality and compliance.
- Coordinate across the Hydrostor Technology and project teams to ensure seamless integration and communication.
Candidate/Employee Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated electrical, Instrumentation & control (EIC) and/or power systems engineer within the energy/industrial technology sector with a proven track record of supporting and contributing to successful project delivery. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and project engineering expertise, excellent leadership skills, and a forward-thinking mindset. You should be able to work across multi-disciplined teams effectively and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Experience in design, construction and project engineering within renewable generation, conventional power systems or Oil and Gas projects is a significant advantage.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
- Minimum of 8 years of Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls (EIC) engineering design & project delivery experience.
- Operational experience within industrial and/or power generation facilities is highly valued.
- Knowledge of power generation and systems control technologies/equipment, Instrumentation and power distribution within an industrial setting
- Proven track record of proactively supporting and contributing to engineering teams delivering Power generation/transmission and distribution projects on time and within budget.
- Strong technical expertise across power connections, electrical and control engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering.
- Experience defining technical requirements, managing risks, and implementing configuration control processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in project management and technical audits.
- Knowledge of industry standards and specifications related to engineering projects.
- Experience in an engineering project delivery role on infrastructure projects in Energy, Industrial, Renewables or Oil and Gas is a significant advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience in applying and programming industrial DCS/PLC’s and HMI’s.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience of controls system applications throughout the project lifecycle from initial design concepts through commissioning and subsequent client support.
- Experience in the power generation industry, specifically Turbomachinery Controls
- Experience with Generator Control and Generator Protection Systems
- Experience with control panel design and testing
- Experience with condition monitoring systems- Vibration Monitoring Bently Nevada, Speed Sensors etc.
- Experience with Siemens, GE Mark VI-e, and/or Emerson DCS/PLC/HMI hardware and software
