At Land Life, our ambition is not just to create positive change, but to inspire it. We're on a mission to restore our planet's 2 billion acres of degraded land, by planting the right trees, at the right time, and in the right place; leveraging technology every step of the way; and unlocking carbon and other new markets to fund this work. Our team is global, our impact is significant, and now we're looking for a Forest Data Imputation intern to join us. This is an opportunity to make a direct, positive impact for local communities, biodiversity and to use nature-based solutions to mitigate and adapt our planet to climate change.

Together, we create impact you can see.

THIS IS US

Land Life is an international scale-up with over 10 years of experience in nature restoration. Last year we planted 3.5 million trees worldwide and were recognised as an UpLink Top Innovator at the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos. Read more about Land Life and our principles.

THE ROLE

One of the key aspects that differentiate Land Life from others in the industry is our innovative approach to utilizing advanced technology. Our proprietary model helps us analyze large datasets from local and national governments, known as National Forest Inventories (NFI), to assess reforestation feasibility. By adding more environmental data, we find patterns that improve our predictions of tree growth in different areas.

As a Forest Data Imputation intern, you will help develop a Machine Learning model to estimate tree metrics for various species based on environmental variables. The goal is to map the NFI data by species, making sure the model is clear and reliable through standard data science methods like validation and data analysis. Key responsibilities include:

  • Finding new data sources to explain tree growth creatively.
  • Documenting all findings comprehensively.
  • Gaining deeper insights into nature, transforming your perspective on trees forever.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • Work in a highly engaged, rapidly growing international nature-restoration company towards impact you can see;
  • Monthly allowance of EUR525 per month (based on full-time);
  • Office in a beautiful location in Amsterdam, next to Oosterpark;
  • Daily free lunch at the office & weekly company workouts;
  • Hybrid and flexible working;

THIS IS YOU:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a focus on data science, environmental science or any data science-included studies.
  • Enjoy finding creative solutions to not entirely well-defined problems.
  • Enthusiastic about data wrangling and modeling, as well as learning about trees.
  • Able to work independently and be at the office in Amsterdam at least one day per week.
  • Experience with Geospatial data, Scikit-learn, and Pandas or similar tools is preferred.
