Who We Are

Land Life is a technology-driven reforestation company with the mission to help restore the world’s 2 billion hectares of degraded land. We plant trees at scale across the globe to kickstart ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. We are an international scale-up based in the Netherlands with projects in the US, Canada, Spain, Australia, and other places. In the 2024 planting season, we restored over 21,000 acres (over 8,500 hectares) of land globally, planting over 13 million trees.

Land Life’s fifth season of implementation in Colorado will be conducted from mid-April to mid-November. Over 550 hectares of fire affected lands are being restored this season.

Responsibilities

Land Life is looking for multiple full-time seasonal Reforestation Crew Members who will be a part of executing the planting quality monitoring and field data collection for the 2024 Colorado reforestation projects. This is primarily a field-based position with travel to different sites in Colorado and potential to travel to other states. Crew members will work with and lead multiple undergraduate interns. Protocol training will be provided by the Head of Operations - North America and Rocky Mountain Operations Manager. This position will report to the Head of Operations - North America.

Reforestation Crew Member will:

  • Work with the Head of Operations and Rocky Mountain Operations Manager to schedule and arrange the day-to-day execution of monitoring and travels between field sites by coordinating with work schedule of interns and reforestation operations to develop weekly monitoring plans
  • Help train and lead the undergraduate interns by providing day-to-day instructions, support, safety briefings, and guidance on how to collect accurate data, species identification, use of the monitoring app, and ensure the compliance of field health and safety
  • Will scout potential Land Life projects and collect detailed notes on sites. Will also be responsible to layout 2025 planting units
  • Regularly inspect the collected data to ensure that the quality control and assurance standards have been met
  • Regularly maintain good condition of monitoring equipment
  • Regularly communicate the progress and promptly communicate any necessary resources or issues with the Land Life staff and work with partnering agencies
  • Be a major contributor to the final monitoring reports by the end of the project duration

Work schedule

  • The anticipated duration is May 12 until November 14, 2025
  • This is a full-time position with possibility to work on weekends/holidays (but not to exceed 40 hr/wk) with the possibility of overtime

Job requirements

Qualifications

  • Has experience in fieldwork involving plant species identification, plant measurements, forest management unit layout, stand delineation/site analysis, and data collection
  • Have experience leading and managing people, especially under field conditions working with people from diverse backgrounds, and able to promote a positive and safe team environment
  • Be able to work for long hours under various field conditions such as steep and uneven terrain, lift up to 50 lb (23 kg), and carry some basic field equipment beside their personal belongings (e.g., drinking water, lunch, sun screen)
  • Have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and personal vehicle to safely transport the interns between field sites (as needed). Be comfortable driving a truck on uneven and rough roads.
  • Have proficiency in Google workspace and Microsoft Office
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills focused on collaboration and building relationships within diverse teams, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to take direction and quickly learn new procedures and processes, as well as willing to solve new problems
  • Have a great work ethic (especially around health, safety, and respect for diversity), attention to detail, and punctuality. Maintain a positive attitude and the ability to be flexible with shifting plans if necessary
  • Experience working with many different stakeholders and partners
  • Have personal field gear necessary to carry out the work (e.g., backpack, hiking shoes, rain jacket), a smartphone that can run the Land Life Company monitoring app (Android 13 or iOS 12.0 or later.), and access to a computer (necessary field equipment needed for monitoring and personal protective equipment will be provided)

Benefits

  • Hourly rate of $20 dollar per worked hour
  • If required to use a personal vehicle for work, employees will be reimbursed at the federal rate of $0.655/miles
  • 13 hours of Paid Time Off per month based on a full time working schedule. Actual accrual will be based on actual hours worked.
