Under the direction of the Sr. Manager - Applications, the Food Scientist - Applications position is an integral part of the MycoTechnology Product Development Applications team and is directly responsible for the technical-to-technical relationship withinternal and external customers assigned to him/her. The role’s primary function is to support the development of sweetener formulations in food and beverages, chewing gums, and other confectionary prototypes utilizing MycoTechnology’s current and future sweetener ingredient platforms.

Essential Duties:
- Develops, maintains, and updates the product development pipeline to ensure new prototypes are launched on
- Develops, organizes, manages, and coordinates customer-specific projects. Assist in the
- Provides technical expertise within the department as a subject matter expert in a specific discipline such as
investigation, training, and communication within that discipline.
- Exhibits an innovative mindset in discovery, advancement, and evaluation of new technologies in food/process
- Provides innovative, timely, and cost-effective improvements, concepts, developments, or scientific insights with
- Develop prototypes that meet the application and financial objectives outlined by the customer or internal brief
- Fully documents all project formulas and testing results in lab notebook
- Determines critical ingredient specification parameters and communicates these to customers
- Works with the Regulatory team to identify potential allergen and safety issues. Ability to determine if
- Support sales team by participating in customer meetings and discussions whenever appropriate. Showcases
feasibility of concepts for development.
- Sets up appropriate shelf-life testing and coordinates sensory testing plans if required in the project brief
- Plans and leads projects of varying complexity with minimal supervision
- Assesses the feasibility of proposed projects and generates alternative solutions
- Stays abreast of consumer and/or competitive trends to provide ideas for new product development or
- Effectively utilizes internal and external resources for efficient project execution
- Identifies opportunities to leverage ingredients and/or flavor suppliers as external resources
- Understands when to bring together key players to resolve project related issues and coordinates resources to
- Analyzes the competitive set and understand competitor technology differences. Learn to conduct competitive
- Utilizes the knowledge of other team members and functions to push for effective project execution
- Leverages business knowledge to decrease project time/costs. Critically assesses and challenges other function’s strategies as they relate to projects
- Remains aware of business strategies and provides input toward execution of the strategies
- Takes a firm and confident stance to uphold MycoTechnology cultural values & business standards
- Recognizes opportunities to make improvements to key policies and processes within the department and
- Designates the appropriate resources by giving general direction to the assigned team
- Support customer’s lab, pilot plant or scale up trials, if required
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in food technology or food science from an accredited institution
- 5+ years of experience in product development or a related field in the area of sweeteners
- Strong culinary skills and interest
- Effective as a part of a project team, as leader, team member, or technical expert
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems that arise during plant testing and scale-up
- Experience developing and managing project budgets including monthly reporting of variance and monthly
- Highly self-motivated and directed
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Excellent written and verbal communications
- Strong formal presentation abilities
- Ability to manage and influence relationships and engage team members with diplomacy and tact
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- The ability to travel approximately 30% of the time
- Master’s degree in food technology or food science from an accredited institution with experience in
