Position Summary

The IT Help Desk Technician Apprenticeship is an earn-and-learn opportunity within an organization geared toward building the foundations of a career in IT support. While working and learning in this competency-based 12-month apprenticeship, you will spend four days per week in on-the-job training, and one day per week completing OpenClassrooms’ online IT Help Desk Technician training path - all while earning an income! At the completion of your apprenticeship, you will receive a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion of a Registered Apprenticeship Program.

Apprentice Responsibilities:

  • Install computer hardware.
  • Modify the installation of software programs to improve performance.
  • Install computer software.
  • Provide technical support for software maintenance or use.
  • Monitor computer system performance to ensure proper operation.
  • Collaborate with others to resolve information technology issues.
  • Resolve computer software problems.
  • Teach others to use computer hardware and software.
  • Train others in computer interface or software use.
  • Evaluate utility of software or hardware technologies.
  • Provide recommendations to others about computer hardware.
  • Recommend changes to improve computer or information systems.
  • Collaborate with others to determine design specifications or details.
  • Conduct research to gain information about products or processes.
  • Update knowledge about emerging industry or technology trends.
  • Read documents to gather technical information.
  • Test software performance.
  • Test computer hardware performance.
  • Document operational activities.
  • Maintain computer hardware.
  • Participate in staffing decisions.


  • Able to work {{on-site within the employer's Location, remote, or hybrid}}
  • At least 18 years of age
  • U.S. citizen or have the right to work in the U.S.
  • Available to commit to a 2000-hour competency-based apprenticeship program (approximately 12 months)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (for non-native speakers a TOEFL score of 80 is recommended)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Technical knowledge:
  • Fundamentals of computer literacy (high-school level)
  • Basic experience in IT, including:
  • Setting up, configuring, and validating the functionality of computer hardware, desktop operating systems (such as Windows), and software
  • Setting up virtual machines (e.g., with VirtualBox) and understanding scripting (e.g., PowerShell)
  • Backing up and securing workstations (e.g., with Windows Defender)
