Sr Thermal Energy Engineer
Skyven Technologies
About the Opportunity
At Skyven Technologies, we have developed a revolutionary heat pump technology to decarbonize industrial heat. We implement this technology through an innovative Energy-as-a-Service model that saves our customers money with no capital outlay. We are hiring a Senior Industrial Decarbonization Sales Engineer as a key role on our growing Solutions Architecture team. This is an opportunity to make a real impact at an innovative and growing climate tech company.
Industrial heat is responsible for roughly 20% of global CO2 emissions. That’s roughly equivalent to emissions generated by all transportation (including land, sea, and air) and is a compelling business opportunity – it will take an estimated $3.7 trillion in capital investment to decarbonize the sector by 2050. Skyven is at the forefront of this transformation, and has recently been selected for a $145M investment from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to accelerate the deployment of our state-of-the-art Skyven Arcturus steam-generating heat pumps (SGHPs) at manufacturing facilities nationwide, revolutionizing how we address energy needs while combating climate change.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Solutions Architect to use their understanding of engineering principles and thermodynamics to conduct Arcturus Heat Pump Feasibility Studies for industrial customers. The role will provide technical support and qualify customers through detailed analysis, onsite data collection, and project scoping. To be successful in this role, you must be able to have a customer-first mindset, be detail-oriented, be able to learn and adapt quickly, have excellent communication skills, and have an entrepreneurial mindset.
Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies to determine the viability of steam-generating heat pump projects. Feasibility studies focus on:
- quantifying the thermodynamic characteristics of heat sources
- determining variability of heat source characteristics and steam demand
- identifying electrical infrastructure requirements
- heat pump siting optimization
- heat exchanger selection
- Conduct site visits to industrial facilities. Tasks during site visits include:
- Install metering equipment to measure heat source characteristics, steam demand, and other process metrics relevant to project viability
- Analyze plant data such as P&IDs, PFDs, utility bills, control systems, and equipment specifications
- Speak to a wide range of plant staff to fully understand plant operations
- Interpret new information in real time and adjust study approach as needed
- Build relationships and trust with plant staff
- Produce feasibility study deliverables
- Analyze heat source and steam demand profile data to build annualized performance models of the steam-generating heat pump
- Calculate fuel cost savings, electrical cost increase and total decarbonization potential
- Collaborate and engage with customers, vendors, and design partners to define the best technical solutions for each project
- Produce project cost estimates. Communicate with vendors/contractors for quotes
- Collate findings into a technical report to convey feasibility study results
- Other duties:
- Lead technical calls with customers to understand their needs, address objections or concerns, present model data, and guide them towards optimal project solutions
- Generate RFIs to support project management documentation requirements and ensure final engineered design meets customer expectations
