Staple is a regenerative neighborhood developer based in Japan. We develop and operate hotels as the catalyst for walkable-scale community development — restoring vibrancy to regional towns facing depopulation, vacant properties, and economic decline. Our approach: identify extraordinary destinations, build an iconic hotel as the anchor, then cultivate the surrounding 10–15 minute walking neighborhood through design, food, culture, and community — over a generational time horizon. Currently active in 8 regions across Japan (Hakodate, Nihonbashi, Setoda, Nagatoyumoto, Nagasaki, Okayama, Minakami, Akiya), expanding toward 20. Selected for the Unreasonable Group’s Unreasonable Impact 2026 (Asia Pacific & Middle East cohort) — a global fellowship by Barclays × Unreasonable Group. Staple also co-runs GOOD SOIL FUND — a ¥6.8B regenerative real estate and hospitality fund backed by 13 LPs, including 6 regional banks and strategic partners such as transportation, real estate, and tourism groups — designed to channel long-term capital into the regeneration of regional neighborhoods across Japan.
