General Summary

• Title: Staff Engineer – Bootloaders
• Job function: Bootloader development (PBL, QBL, XBL, SBL, UEFI, Coreboot) supporting multiple QC chipsets.
• Skills/experience:
• Knowledge of Boot framework, Strong hands‑on experience in embedded firmware / bootloader development.
• Familiarity with parallel-processing concepts such as threads, signals, priorities, semaphores, mutexes, race-conditions, deadlocks, etc.
• Experience with Qualcomm MSM and AMSS development, ARM architecture (CPU boot flows, MMU, Caches, exceptions, Multi‑core bring‑up) and software development
• C or C++ programming skills
• Understanding of build systems, linkage, and binary formats (e.g., ELF)
• Experience debugging low‑level software using JTAG, ICE, trace, and logs.
• Exposure to secure boot concepts, authentication flows, and trusted firmware interaction is a plus.
• Familiarity with Git, Gerrit and/or Perforce
• Prior experience in bootloaders, open source bootloader firmware, or early platform software is highly plus.
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to function efficiently both independently and in a team environment
• Mentoring and Coaching - The ability to develop, coach, and mentor associates.
• Self-motivated, perpetual learner with time-management skills
  
• Education requirements:
• Master’s and/or Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
• 9+ years Software Engineering or related work experience.
• 3+ years of experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
  
• Responsibilities:
• Develop and Support Boot loader images for multiple chipsets.
• Support various feature development and validations in pre-silicon and post-silicon environment
• Work on enhancements in Boot to achieve better performance/portability/Sustainability across chipsets.
• Interact closely with teams across Core drivers, HLOS, Multimedia
• Collaborate closely with SoC architects, HW design teams, security teams, and HLOS teams to define and validate HW/SW interfaces.
• Owns complex technical areas and drives solutions end‑to‑end.
• Makes moderate‑to‑high impact technical decisions affecting platform boot architecture.
• Effectively communicates complex technical topics to diverse audiences.
• Influences design direction beyond immediate project or module.
  
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
  
  
  

OR

Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

OR

PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

• 2+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
