General Summary
Role Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Linux Engineer with 8–10 years of experience in designing, developing, debugging, and maintaining Linux-based systems. The ideal candidate for this Customer Engineering role will have deep expertise in Linux internals, system bring-up, performance tuning, and troubleshooting across hardware and software layers. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams including hardware, firmware, application and customer teams.
Key Responsibilities
Linux System Customer Engineering
Design, develop, and maintain Linux-based systems across desktop, server, or embedded platforms.
Perform Linux bring-up on new hardware platforms.
Customize and maintain Linux kernels, device trees, and drivers as required.
Debug complex system-level issues related to boot, power, performance, memory, and stability.
Debugging & Troubleshooting
Analyze and resolve issues using tools such as dmesg, strace, ftrace, perf, gdb, and system logs.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for kernel panics, boot failures, driver issues, and system crashes.
Troubleshoot file systems, storage, networking, USB, PCIe, display, audio, and power management issues.
System Performance & Optimization
Optimize boot time, memory footprint, CPU utilization, and I/O performance.
Profile system performance and recommend architectural improvements.
Ensure system reliability, scalability, and security best practices.
Build, Packaging & Automation
Work with Linux build systems such as Yocto, Buildroot, Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora, or custom distributions.
Create and maintain build scripts, packaging, and CI/CD pipelines.
Automate testing, validation, and deployment processes using shell scripting or Python.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Collaborate with hardware, firmware, application, QA, and DevOps teams.
Review code, provide technical guidance, and mentor junior engineers.
Contribute to architecture discussions and technical design reviews.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience.

Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong expertise in Linux OS internals (process scheduling, memory management, IPC, file systems).
Hands-on experience with Linux kernel configuration, customization, and debugging.
Solid knowledge of device drivers (character, block, network).
Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Shell scripting; working knowledge of Python preferred.
Experience with systemd, udev, networking (TCP/IP), and storage subsystems.
Familiarity with UEFI/BIOS, bootloaders (GRUB, U-Boot), and init systems.
Tools & Environment
Proficiency with Git, patch management, and upstream/downstream workflows.
Experience with virtualization or containers (KVM, Docker, Podman) is a plus.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with embedded Linux or ARM-based platforms.
Knowledge of secure boot, TPM, SELinux.
Experience working with Windows–Linux interoperability, dual-boot, or enterprise IT environments.
Prior experience supporting ISV enablement, platform bring-up, or customer escalations.
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or related engineering field.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to work independently and in cross-functional global teams.
