Purpose of the Role

As the Senior HSEC Industrial Hygienist, you will provide professional advice and support for industrial hygiene, health, safety, environmental, and compliance. In addition, you'll provide day-to-day technical and field support as well as subject matter expert support for special projects and during emergency response incidents.

You'll work with other HSEC IH and Safety personnel as well as interact with management, Production, Research & Development, Maintenance, and contractor workgroups to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements to implement safety initiatives and foster a culture of “Zero Harm.”

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • You have 5-12 years of experience with health, safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental work experience in a laboratory, research, manufacturing, construction and/or light manufacturing environments.
  • You have a diploma in OH&S, Bachelor's, or Master’s degree in Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or Science.
  • You are certified or have the ability to achieve the following certifications: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH); Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • You have working knowledge of and experience interpreting regulations and industry standards (i.e. WorkSafe BC OH&S regulations, CSA, ANSI, ACGIH, and NIOSH) to implement safe work practices, policies and standards.
  • You have practical experience in incident investigations, identification of preventative measures, and participation in tracking to completion.
  • You have skills and abilities in using computer and software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, incident management systems, databases, and smart devices.
  • You have experience conducting internal audits and maintaining Certificate of Recognition (COR) or similar safety certifications.

    What Success looks like in this role

    • You'll provide proactive safety and industrial hygiene expertise, support the development of safety management systems, and offer field support for health and safety issues.
    • You'll conduct workplace exposure assessments, health risk evaluations, site inspections, and audits, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
    • You will ensure adherence to OHS regulations and standards, maintain inspection records, and act as liaison with regulatory agencies.
    • You'll assist in the creation and delivery of safety training programs, manage HSEC training systems, and mentor HSEC Advisors.
    • You will oversee incident reporting, conduct investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
    • You'll support emergency response procedures, participate in drills, and ensure readiness for potential emergencies.
    • You work with leadership and stakeholders to integrate safety into operations, communicate safety information effectively, and foster a culture of "Zero Harm."
    • You'll stay informed on industry trends, monitor safety performance KPIs, and identify areas for improvement in safety programs.
