Introduction

Ubongo is committed to producing inclusive, high-quality edutainment content across various platforms, including radio, TV, and digital channels. By 2028, we aim to reach over 100 million children and achieve measurable educational outcomes. Ubongo is Africa’s leading edutainment company, reaching over 32 million families through localized multimedia content. To strengthen evidence of its long-term impact, Ubongo is launching a Social Impact Measurement exercise in partnership with Impact Track under the “Measure What Matters Africa” initiative.

Background to the Goal-Level Indicator

Originally framed around SDG 4.1.1 (literacy/numeracy), Ubongo’s revised MEL Plan (2024–2028) recognizes the need for a higher value and holistic goal-level indicator reflecting the broader social, behavioral, and attitudinal outcomes of its educational programs. This shift responds to constraints in accessing standardized EGRA data and builds on demand for inclusive, scalable, and values-based learning metrics. Despite wide reach, Ubongo lacks consistent data on the real-world impact of its content on children’s confidence, motivation, aspirations, and caregiver-child engagement. Past studies have been context-specific or one-off and largely aimed at proof of concept around the models capability to improve children's learning outcomes . There’s a need to institutionalize social impact tracking across core markets. Ubongo was awarded the Measure what matters Africa Award by Impact Track in April 2025 and has decided to use the opportunity to deploy a hybrid measurement system with a validated social impact questionnaire and real-time analytics dashboard. This solution will be piloted in Tanzania and Uganda in collaboration with enumerators and Ubongo’s local partners.
