POSITION OBJECTIVE (overall purpose of position)

The Music and Voice Director focuses on guiding and directing all dialogue and singing recording sessions with voice actors. Key responsibilities include ensuring accuracy against the script, collaborating with the production team (Writers, Studio Manager, Sound Engineers) to improve efficiency and create original or adapted songs, leading episode rehearsals, participating in content review, and maintaining company principles. The role requires participation in guiding studio sessions and active documentation and reporting of activities.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Music Composition and Direction

  • Collaborate with writers, sound engineers, and the studio Manager to create songs for all shows as needed.
  • Lead in the adaptation of all songs from English to Kiswahili whilst maintaining their melody and learning objective.
  • Guide and direct voice actors during recording sessions of songs to bring out their best in accordance with the songs.
  • Effectively participate in content review sessions to make, take, and follow up on comments on required improvements related to music composition and adaptation so as to ensure the highest quality of songs.


Voice Direction and Performance Quality

  • Guiding all dialogue recording sessions with all voice actors
  • Effectively lead all in-house table read sessions, in which the scripts are read aloud by the voice actors, to understand the project's vision, characters’ roles, and how each character should sound on each line.
  • Effectively participate in content review sessions to make, take, and follow up on comments on required improvements related to voice actors' performance so as to ensure the highest quality of the dialogue.


Talent and Performance Development

  • Lead all talent auditions for voice actors when they are needed


Quality Assurance and Brand Consistency

  • To ensure accurate representation of every scene and character in each script
  • Use a script to double-check the first draft of the recorded audio to make sure that there are zero (0) audio recording errors before it is sent for animatic
  • Work with the Studio Manager, Senior Producer, and Lead Sound Engineers to continuously find innovative and simple ways to make recording sessions more efficient


Audio Production Oversight

  • Update the recording progress sheet on a daily basis for voice actors’ payment processing.
  • Support the Studio Manager in scheduling and planning of music and/or voice recording
  • Assist the Studio Manager in maintaining music libraries and documentation


Companywide Responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Ubongo is more interested in the ability to get the job done than qualifications

Educational

  • A diploma or a Bachelor's degree.


Experience

  • 1 year of experience working in a creative production environment.
  • Proof of creative production skills, including but not limited to songwriting, singing, voice acting, and voice directing.
  • Preferably, an understanding of educational content development for children.
  • Familiarity with African culture and languages is a plus.
  • Knowledge of music theory is a plus.

Skills

  • Ability to develop compelling songs, including child-friendly melodies
  • Ability to lead recording sessions, directing voice actors and singers to be able to accurately represent each character as per the character profile and the writer’s vision.
  • Self-motivated and possess a high level of responsibility to complete tasks promptly and make significant progress without direct supervision
  • Ownership of projects, including debriefing with team members
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and meet deadlines.
  • Sensitivity to different cultures and backgrounds
  • Skill in refining scripts to improve clarity, coherence, and impact.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility in adjusting to new work-related requirements as they arise
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, the internet, and electronic media
  • Ability to relate to kids and be able to see things from a child’s eye
  • Familiarity with aspects of education and children
  • Ability to read, analyse, and interpret information
