**ABOUT UNRAVEL CARBON **

Unravel Carbon is an enterprise software that helps companies track and reduce their carbon emissions, focusing on Asia, based in Singapore.

It is the first AI-powered decarbonization platform in Asia that converts any company’s accounting data into full supply chain carbon data in seconds, generates climate solutions automatically and auto-populates regulatory disclosure reports.

We aim to accelerate the participation of all companies, big and small, in the global fight against climate change. And we want to do it the 21st century way—autonomous, painless, and beautiful.

Unravel consists of a team of software engineers, data scientists, founders and climate experts with a passion to solve the world’s most pressing issue—climate change. Collectively, our leadership team has launched and invested in multiple companies, and are now combining their experience and knowledge here at Unravel.

We are backed by some of the world’s best funds and investors such as Y Combinator, Sequoia.

Unravel was founded in Q4/2021 with headquarters in Singapore.

**ABOUT THE ROLE **

As we deepen our presence in Japan, we are hiring a Software Engineer to help make Unravel Carbon succeed in the Japanese market through the product itself. You will localize and build features for Japanese customers, own how the platform adapts to Japan’s accounting and regulatory context, and act as the technical expert who helps prospects and customers integrate Unravel Carbon into their systems.

This is a generalist engineering role at the intersection of the customer and engineering. You will work across the data layer, backend, and frontend, and partner closely with our Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams across Singapore and the broader APAC region.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES **

  1. Build and localize for Japan
  • Build and localize features specifically for the Japanese market, adapting accounting logic, regulatory disclosure formats, and language so Japanese enterprises get a first-class experience.
  • Own localization for Japan end to end: the product UI, in-app copy, help documentation, and disclosure report templates, plus the internationalization groundwork that makes future locales faster to ship.
  • Translate what you hear from Japanese customers and prospects into shipped product, scoping, building, and deploying features
  • Partner with Product and Engineering across Singapore and APAC to bring Japan’s requirements into the global roadmap, and make sure new features hold up against Japanese regulatory and localization needs.
  • Write and maintain the technical knowledge that compounds: integration guides, runbooks, and customer-facing documentation in Japanese and English.
  • Support localisation efforts, including reviewing Japanese translations of the UI, help documentation, and disclosure report templates.
  1. Technical partner to customers and prospects
  • Act as the technical expert for Japanese prospects and customers on integrations, scoping how Unravel Carbon connects to their accounting, ERP, and data systems, and building those connections where needed.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for Japanese enterprise customers, responding in Japanese and English across email, video calls, and our ticketing system.
  • Diagnose product issues across data ingestion, emission calculations, reporting outputs, and configuration, fixing them in the code where you can and escalating with clear, reproducible reports when they need the wider team.
  • Guide customers through onboarding and help them map accounting data to carbon emission categories aligned with the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064 standards.
  • Run demos, walkthroughs, and training sessions so customers are confident using the platform independently.

ABOUT YOU

  • You are a full-stack engineer who is comfortable across the stack, from data to backend to frontend, and you reach for whatever a problem actually needs.
  • You are a technically-minded problem solver who gets genuine satisfaction from helping customers succeed.
  • You have a sharp eye for detail
  • You are able to trace a data issue back to its root cause
  • You can communicate complex technical information clearly, whether to a finance controller or a sustainability officer.
  • You see the work of helping a Japanese enterprise correctly measure its Scope 3 emissions as genuinely meaningful.
  • You are comfortable navigating ambiguity in an early-stage company environment, where processes are still being built and your input shapes how things are done.

Required skills:

  • Python Backend Development Frameworks (Flask, Django). Backend development in other languages/frameworks can be considered too
  • NoSQL databases (MongoDB)
  • SQL databases (MySQL, Postgres, DuckDB)
  • Running/managing Linux servers on Cloud services (AWS/GCS/Azure)

Optional skills:

  • Front End Web development (ReactJS)
  • Python data science tools (Pandas, Numpy, Scipy)
  • Python NLP tools

**YOUR WORK STYLE **

  • Customer-first: You treat every support ticket as an opportunity to build trust. You follow through, keep customers updated, and never leave an issue hanging.
  • Methodical & thorough: You investigate problems systematically, document your findings clearly, and write up post-mortems that help the whole team learn.
  • Proactive communicator: You surface issues early to customers, to teammates, and upwards, rather than waiting for problems to escalate.
  • Bridge-builder: You thrive at the intersection of technical and business teams. You translate between engineers who think in APIs and sustainability managers who think in carbon tonnes.
  • Ownership-oriented: In a small team, you step up without being asked. If you see a gap in documentation or a process that can be improved, you fix it.

YOUR PREFERRED BACKGROUND

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or equivalent practical experience

2+ years of experience in a software engineering / implementation role with some direct customer-facing experience

Native or near-native Japanese (reading, writing, speaking) and professional working proficiency in English.
