Role Description:
As a Senior Engineer, you will lead a team of engineers and scientists to design and build new membrane systems aimed at industrial decarbonization. You will design and develop improvements to existing membrane systems and new systems at scales ranging from small test rigs to pilot scale. Reporting to the VP of Research & Development, you will own project scoping, timelines and deliverables. Our first-of-a-kind systems service chemical and other challenging industries that require processing of sophisticated mixtures. Although our current systems successfully address the Pulp and Paper industry, this position will be part of a team focused on new applications of Via’s technology. This role has enormous growth potential as headcount increases, systems scale, and the organization continues to build scope and influence.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop industrial pumping, filtration, mixing, storage, and membrane systems.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate membrane performance and use engineering fundamentals to conceive of new system designs.
  • Design separation systems from bench scale to pilot scale with inline sensors for recording process conditions
  • Select proper build materials for long-term and safe use with chemicals, temperatures and pressures
  • Supervise the construction of the system and develop testing validation methods
  • Plan and manage deliverables of self and others to meet system build timelines
  • Develop, modify, and maintain project-specific process design packages (PFDs, BOMs, P&IDs, etc.).
  • Maintain and improve existing test equipment to repair damaged equipment and improve performance.
  • Design, set-up, and execute hands-on experiments and engineering builds.
  • Lead hazard analysis on various systems (FMEA, HAZOP, etc.)
  • Create component specifications (RFQs), selecting parts, and contacting vendors
  • Analyze process performance, summarize findings, and share report results across the organization

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or similar
  • 7+ years of process engineering experience with BS, 3+ years with advanced degree
  • Technical knowledge of membranes is a plus
  • Experience aligning and driving team members to achieve project goals
  • With significant independence, able to execute experiments, perform detailed data analysis and reach actionable conclusions
  • Experience with statistical data analysis tools (e.g. JMP, MATLAB, R)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; Able to clearly express and critique ideas
  • You must be: organized & detail-oriented, adaptable, able to prioritize and balance multiple projects, team-oriented, and love to troubleshoot and think critically.
  • After first 2 years, some travel (up to 15%) may be required
  • U.S. Work authorization is required for this role.
