Position Description
Via Separations’ technology is the first commercial implementation of membrane filtration systems in the pulp & paper industry. As the Site Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of Via’s first commercial system at International Paper - Grande Prairie, AB. You will be responsible for supervising contracted operators from partner firms, and will serve as Via’s primary field contact for operations. You will coordinate and participate in troubleshooting efforts as well as maintenance activities for the system. You will also master institutional knowledge of Via’s membrane technology and transfer those skills to our commercial site -- ensuring our system runs safely and smoothly, and our customer’s expectations are exceeded. This role has enormous growth potential as headcount increases and the organization continues to build scope and influence.
Responsibilities Include:
- Supervise and ensure safe operations at our commercial site, including supervision of contracted operators, daily operation and maintenance activities
- Develop, modify, and maintain operational training guides for our first of a kind commercial system; Provide training and direction to operation and maintenance personnel
- Act as a quality assurance and safety supervisor of daily operations
- Assist with nonstandard operation and maintenance tasks (including detecting and troubleshooting abnormal system performance)
- Coordinate response to unscheduled system shutdowns within an acceptable time frame
- Ensure customer satisfaction with equipment and support
- Analyze process performance; summarize and report findings to Via Field Services team daily
- Coordinate all necessary inspections and maintenance activities with third-party contractors
- As the face of our organization in the field, uphold a high bar of professionalism and our company’s mission and values in interactions with customers, contractors and other partners.
The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these qualifications:
- HS diploma or GED with 15+ years of field or equivalent work experience as an operations/maintenance supervisor, coordinator, or technician
- Hands-on skills and safe practices are a must
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership in troubleshooting operational issues and managing personnel matters
- Organized & detail-oriented, adaptable, able to prioritize and balance multiple projects, team-oriented, and versed in system troubleshooting
- Valid Driver’s license and access to vehicle
- Ability to lift 20kg, climb ladders, and use Personal Protective Equipment is required
- Valid First Aid, CSO, and H2S Alive safety tickets required
- Experience in the pulp & paper and/or oil & gas industry with hands-on industrial system operation and maintenance knowledge is highly preferred
- ABSA Power Engineer Certification (Fourth Class or Higher) preferred
- Pulp and Paper Technician Certificate or equivalent post-secondary education program preferred
- Forklift Certification preferred
- Canadian work authorization required
