Position Description:
The Test Director will lead and coordinate all test activities for Voyager Defense and National Security programs in San Diego. Key responsibilities include test planning, test hardware and software development, test procedure development, resource and facilities coordination, test scheduling, and engagement with external test facilities. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of aerospace test standards (ex – SMC-S-016), and experience leading and executing test activities including environmental test campaigns (Vibration, Shock, Thermal Vacuum, EMC/EMI) for aerospace programs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead test planning activities across Voyager Defense & National Security - San Diego programs and product development efforts
- Develop test requirements, plans, procedures, schedules, and resource plans (personnel, facilities)
- Lead development of test hardware (ground support equipment), test software, and test scripts
- Work with Program Management, Engineering, Manufacturing & Operations leaders and teams to ensure proper coordination and timely execution of test activities across all programs and product efforts.
- Engage with external test facilities to plan and procure test services in support of programs and products
- Support project planning, including development of cost, schedule and technical baselines for test activities
- Lead Test Readiness Reviews for programs; support other key program milestones as a Test Subject Matter Expert
- Support program verification and validation activities
- Delegate and direct successful execution of a test event in accordance with the test plan and within the required time constraints
- Use the risk management process to manage risks associated with test planning and issues encountered during test execution
- Resolve programmatic and technical conflicts that arise during testing
- Present test results in a clear, concise report that gives the customer meaningful information regarding the system's ability to meet test objectives and requirements
- Brief test design plans and test results to test team
- Develop test cases/test procedures that trace to test requirements and objectives
- Develop operational mission-based scenarios to support test events
- Identify, capture and apply lessons learned in support of continuous process improvement; suggest process improvements that increase efficiency and/or effectiveness of product testing
- Adhere to Safety & Mission Assurance, Quality, and Environmental practices
- Occasional work outside of normal business hours and on weekends to support long-duration test activities
- Travel: some travel may be required as part of job duties (~10-20%)
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or equivalent technical discipline
- 10+ years of experience in test requirements, planning, development, execution, verification & validation
- Knowledge in test support tools such as modeling and simulation tools, data collection tools, data analysis tools, test automation tools, and network analyzers (i.e. Keysight PathWave Automation, OpenTAP, Solidworks, ect.)
- Knowledge in configuration of ATE components including rack instrumentation and PXI architectures
- Ability to demonstrate engineering principles and concepts
- Ability to read code in Python and C#
- Ability to read schematic drawings using Altium Designer
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; able to sort through complex issues and develop clear solutions, provide in-depth technical assessments and identify issues and risks
- Ability to coordinate with numerous stakeholders/customers from NASA and DoD agencies to commercial industry
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Effective interpersonal and team skills to engage at peer and management levels
- Clear and concise written, verbal communications and presentation skills; clearly articulate ideas, recommendations and options to customers and senior leaders
- Highly organized individual, capable of handling multiple competing priorities; able to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and quickly adjust in a dynamic environment
Preferences:
- 10+ years of program or technical leadership experience
- 10+ years of experience working in the aerospace and defense industry
- Experience applying aerospace test standards (ex – SMC-S-016) to develop environmental test campaigns (Vibration, Shock, Thermal Vacuum, EMC/EMI) for aerospace programs (i.e. GEVS GSFC-STD-7000A, ECSS-E-ST-20-07C Rev 2, ECSS-E-HB-20-07A and MIL-STD-461G)
- Experience quoting and coordinating flying probe, AXI and AOI test services
- Knowledge of basic mechanical engineering concepts related to bed of nail test fixtures design and construction
- Expertise with requirements development and analysis, specifications, engineering drawings, interface control documents, test plans/procedures/scripts/software, validation & verification plans
- Knowledge of space system designs, environments and operations
- Familiar with Linux operating systems
- Relevant experience engaging government and commercial customers to advance projects and initiatives at varying degrees of complexity through engineering management
- Proficiency in various enterprise tools, including enterprise resource planning, product data management, product lifecycle management, quality management, configuration management resource planning, and engineering design and analysis
- Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools to plan, execute, and monitor projects effectively.
- Knowledge of Agile software development processes and applications (i.e., Jira/Confluence)
Salary Range: $150,000-$195,000
