Job Summary: The Test Engineer Level II supports propulsion system testing and basic systems engineering tasks within the Aerospace and Defense industry. This role collaborates with senior engineers to assist with test planning, control system support, test software development, instrumentation integration, and analysis. The engineer performs tasks under guidance, contributing to research, development, and risk-reduction testing while gaining experience across multiple technical domains.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and executing test plans and procedures for propulsion systems.
  • Support control system, avionics, and software engineering tasks for rocket motor testing.
  • Help define instrumentation and test facility requirements.
  • Assist with integrating avionics subsystems and test equipment.
  • Support calibration and validation of test instrumentation.
  • Participate in Software-in-the-Loop (SWIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) testing.
  • Help generate and troubleshoot real-time test software using MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Contribute to pre-test performance predictions and post-test analysis.
  • Prepare test status updates and assist in review materials.
  • Participate in Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), supporting documentation, data preparation, and presentation of test objectives, readiness status, and risk assessments.
  • Provide support for higher-level design reviews (e.g., PDRs, CDRs) by contributing data, analysis, and technical input as needed.
  • Identify potential risks and support mitigation planning.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in systems engineering and/or test engineering for aerospace, defense, or propulsion system development.
  • Exposure to software and hardware integration activities, including troubleshooting and basic analysis.
  • Familiarity with technical documentation, test reports, or review support (e.g., TRRs, PDRs, CDRs).

Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of propulsion systems, or related aerospace field, and integration and testing.
  • Familiarity with rocket motor propulsion system components and instrumentation.
  • Exposure to pressure, temperature, acceleration, and force measurement techniques.
  • Basic understanding of serial communication protocols (RS-422/485, CAN).
  • Introductory experience with C/C++, MATLAB, and Simulink programming.
  • Familiarity with hardware/software configuration and documentation practices.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and assume additional responsibilities as skills develop.
  • Strong interest in developing technical skills in aerospace applications.
  • Willingness to collaborate with senior engineers, participate in reviews, and receive mentorship.
  • Commitment to technical accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in systems engineering and/or test engineering for aerospace, defense, or propulsion system development.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical, electrical engineering, or related STEM field from an accredited college/university
  • Exposure to software and hardware integration activities, including troubleshooting and basic analysis.
  • Familiarity with technical documentation, test reports, or review support (e.g., TRRs, PDRs, CDRs).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Rocket motor design and testing experience
  • Willingness to travel to test facilities and support rocket motor test operations as required
  • Able to work in a structured, fast-paced engineering environment
  • Capable of supporting multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Dedicated to quality, accountability, and mission-focused teamwork in national defense applications

The salary range represents the base salary range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors. Those include but are not limited to location, experience, and performance.
