Piper Maddox are partnered with a leading asset owner in California with over 13 assets and 8GW of power in development and operations. In scaling rapidly, their next phase of growth involves building out an internal operating team and are looking to bring on a Director of Environmental Health and Safety to lead and build their EHS function.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Develop and document standardized EHS procedures and playbooks by year-end, with a roadmap for full implementation and operationalization in 2027
- Monitor, audit, and continuously improve EHS performance, ensuring programs are fit-for-purpose and aligned with both regulatory requirements and operational realities
- Act as a key advisor to senior leadership, with the potential to expand scope into broader operational leadership as the organization continues to grow
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive, multi-state EHS compliance program, with an immediate focus on California operations and expansion into Colorado and the broader Southwest
- Establish and standardize OSHA-compliant policies, procedures, and reporting frameworks (including OSHA 300 logs), ensuring full regulatory alignment across all operating power plant assets
- Partner with site leadership and operations teams to implement structured safety protocols, including incident prevention programs, safety drills, and emergency response procedures
- Design and roll out health and safety programs covering workers’ compensation, return-to-work processes, and employee fitness-for-duty requirements (e.g., drug testing, physicals, pulmonary and hearing tests)
- Provide strategic leadership while influencing cross-functional stakeholders, driving a culture of safety through strong communication, training, and change management
This is a great opportunity to have high impact and influence on a rapidly scaling firm. You will have the rare chance to build out the EHS processes and procedures from the ground up.
