Role: Director of Development (project execution)

We are partnered with a market leading owner, operator and developer of energy storage projects, specializing in energy storage at the distribution level of the electric grid (utilities). They focus on stand-alone energy storage projects in urban environments.

They're looking to add a Director of Development to their team who will have a strong engineering background and lead the project execution team reporting to the CPO. You will take over projects from origination and lead the execution phase managing site designs and permitting, to have the projects ready to be delivered to construction.

This person will have a strong track record of delivering C&I or utility scale projects in the BESS space (not just solar).

Key Responsibilities 🔨:

• Oversee a portfolio of C&I BESS projects from origination handoff through site design and permitting, ensuring they're ready for construction
• Manage engineering and permitting strategies, guiding key technical and regulatory decisions.
• Maintain accountability for budgets, schedules, and quality targets.
• Lead handover of projects to construction with complete documentation and risk mitigation.
• Serve as primary liaison with executive leadership on progress, risks, and major decisions.
• Manage a high-performing engineering & project execution team.

Qualifications & Experience 📑:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in engineering or technical project management.
• Min 4 years of people management experience
• Strong track record of managing the entire lifecycle of project execution
• Strong track record of delivering projects in the BESS space (C&I preferred)
• Expertise in design, permitting, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
• Strong financial acumen; proven ability to manage multi-million-dollar budgets.
• Excellent communication skills with experience reporting to executive leadership.
• Strong player/coach
