We are working with a rapidly scaling clean‑energy organization building a next‑generation platform at the intersection of grid‑scale storage, retail power, and advanced market operations. Our team is backed by experienced energy leaders and supported by strong financial partners. The company is entering a major growth phase and is preparing to launch a new retail electricity and market‑participation business in ERCOT.

The Director will lead the end‑to‑end planning, regulatory approval, and operational build‑out required for a new organization to become an active ERCOT Retail Electric Provider (REP) and Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE). This includes starting as an Option 2 REP / Level 2 QSE, with a planned progression to Option 1 REP and either in‑house or outsourced Level 4 QSE capability.

Key Responsibilities

Phase 1 – Strategic & Business Planning

  • Develop short‑, mid‑, and long‑term business plans and forecasts for investors, REP/QSE applications, and credit providers.
  • Define load growth, revenue model, margin structure, and risk framework.
  • Ensure alignment between forecast assumptions and ERCOT credit/operational requirements.

Phase 2 – REP Certification & Regulatory Setup

Option 2 REP (Initial Entry)

  • Form the legal entity and complete all required applications.
  • Coordinate regulatory filings with ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission of Texas.

Option 1 REP (Upgrade Path)

  • File amendments to REP certification.
  • Document technical and managerial capabilities for Option 1.
  • Complete required ERCOT testing or “flight tests.”
  • Meet financial and enhanced reporting requirements.

Phase 3 – QSE Strategy & Activation

Level 4 QSE (Build or Outsource)

  • Submit ERCOT QSE application and manage administrative review.
  • Meet all credit and financial qualification requirements.
  • Provide detailed business plan sections and operational forecasts.
  • Demonstrate operational readiness, including:
  • Scheduling systems
  • Telemetry and settlement interfaces
  • Backup control plans
  • Complete operational tests and ancillary services qualification.
  • Secure ERCOT certification and approval.

Phase 4 – Systems, Technology & Integration

  • Select and contract with market systems and EDI providers.
  • Lead implementation and integration efforts.
  • Complete ERCOT systems testing and certification.
  • Ensure full readiness for settlements, invoicing, and data exchange.

Phase 5 – Credit, Collateral & Financial Infrastructure

ERCOT Credit & Collateral

  • Prepare and submit ERCOT credit application.
  • Build models for expected load, settlement exposure, and counterparty risk.
  • Post required financial security and complete ERCOT creditworthiness review.

External Credit Facilities

  • Negotiate credit facility support.
  • Evaluate third‑party QSE and bundled credit service options.
  • Compare alternatives and manage legal contracting.

Phase 6 – Training, Readiness & Market Launch

  • Complete ERCOT retail and operational training requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with retail market rules and TX transaction timelines.
  • Validate settlement and invoicing processes.
  • Finalize go‑live readiness for both REP and QSE capabilities.

Phase 7 – Expansion & Future State Planning

  • Evaluate regulatory requirements for expansion into additional states.
  • Develop roadmap for geographic scaling and load growth.
  • Support long‑term optimization of risk, credit structures, and operational efficiencies.

Why This Role Is Unique

This is a rare opportunity to:

  • Build a regulated retail + market operations business from scratch
  • Shape all systems, processes, and compliance frameworks
  • Influence technology, vendor selection, and operational design
  • Establish capabilities that will scale across multiple markets
  • Join a team operating at the frontier of storage‑integrated retail energy
  • Step into a high‑impact leadership role within a fast‑growing power platform
