Piper Maddox are supporting a key client on a Performance Engineering Manager role to lead the development of data-driven performance strategies across a growing portfolio of distributed solar PV and hybrid (solar + storage) assets.

This role will be responsible for building and scaling a performance engineering function, leveraging data, analytics, and engineering insight to drive measurable improvements across the fleet.

The position requires a balance of hands-on technical capability and strategic leadership, with a focus on developing tools, systems, and processes that enhance performance and operational efficiency.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of data architecture and performance systems, including tools for loss allocation, digital twins, and expected power modelling.
  • Drive fleet-wide performance optimisation, using SCADA/DAS data and engineering models to identify underperformance and improvement opportunities.
  • Build and manage monitoring and reporting platforms, ensuring data integrity, visibility, and scalability across assets.
  • Oversee performance guarantee tracking and reporting, where applicable.
  • Provide technical support to asset management teams, including root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Own governance of monitoring platforms (SCADA, DAS, historian systems), working with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Hire and lead a team of engineers and analysts, focused on data quality, analytics, and system performance.
  • Support M&A and project development activities, including performance evaluation and production forecasting.
  • Drive innovation through predictive analytics, AI/ML, and automation, improving availability, production, and cost efficiency.

Key Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience within renewable energy, with a focus on performance engineering, analytics, and data systems.
  • Strong experience with SCADA/DAS systems and solar PV performance modelling.
  • Proficiency in tools such as PVsyst, SAM, Pvlib, or similar.
  • Strong programming and data skills (Python, SQL, dashboarding tools such as PowerBI).
  • Proven experience building and leading high-performing technical teams.
  • Solid understanding of data architecture and performance analytics frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to operate cross-functionally.
