Electrical Engineering Manager, New Product Development – Power Grid Solutions
📍 Location: Chicago, Illinois (On-site at Global R&D Headquarters)
💰 Compensation: $135,000-165,000 + Quarterly Bonus + Profit Sharing + Generous Relocation
🏢 Company: Power System and Grid Automation OEM
The Challenge: Lead the Team Building the 2030 Grid
Our client has steadily grown from a $50M business into a $1B industry-leader over the last 20 years. Their success comes from a focus on engineering excellence and a strong investment into their employees. As a privately-owned company, they reinvest 3.5% of profits back into this department: Research and Development. They are now on track to double their revenue in the next few years, fueled by the explosive demand for data center, renewables, and grid modernization projects. We are looking for a technical leader who can grow an elite team of engineers to concept, prototype, and launch the next generation of MV/HV switchgear and power grid protection systems.
The "Showplace" R&D Facility (The On-site Advantage)
Lead your team hands-on in a world-class R&D lab. This facility is a "showplace" of modern power system engineering, featuring:
- High-Voltage Testing: 500kV AC and 1300kV lightning impulse labs.
- Environmental Stress Testing: Chambers capable of -70°C for extreme reliability validation.
- Full Lifecycle Ownership: You have the tools to iterate on designs in days, not months.
Your Mandate
- Build the Bench: You will have the resources, headcount, and the authority to hire, mentor, and develop the next generation of engineering talent.
- Technical Authority: Lead the electrical design strategy for medium and high-voltage products (Switchgear, Reclosers, Grid Automation, and Overcurrent Limiting Protection).
- NPD Leadership: Drive a structured Stage-Gate development process from initial concept through validation and production release.
- Industry Influence: Represent the company on IEEE standards committees, shaping the future of the industry while building your own professional legacy.
Who You Are
- 8+ years in progressive electrical engineering within the Power Distribution/High Voltage space.
- 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams
- Deep technical depth in power systems protection, system analysis, and fault response.
- BSEE required (MSEE or PE a major plus).
- Prior work on IEEE committees is a major plus
- Desired Background: You come from a Power Systems OEM, a Smart Grid developer, or a heavy-duty Substation Consulting firm where you’ve worked closely with OEMs.
Why This Seat is Different
- Private Ownership = Long-Term Thinking: No budget cuts to meet a stock price. You have the stability to execute long-term product roadmaps and build a team accordingly.
- Financial Upside: Between the base, the quarterly bonuses, and the Profit Sharing, the total cash compensation is designed to outcompete for the long haul.
- Family-First Culture: Extended holiday shutdowns and a century-long track record of putting employees first.
