Piper Maddox is exclusively partnering with a highly diversified energy company operating across electric and natural gas utilities, alongside a broad portfolio of energy-related services and solutions. The organization serves millions of customers and plays a critical role in power generation, distribution, and infrastructure development across its markets.

We’re seeking a Senior Controls Engineer based in Detroit, to support operations within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on role working closely with plant personnel to drive reliability, improve processes, and support ongoing maintenance and project initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy industrial, chemical, petrochemical, or similar manufacturing environments
  • Strong field troubleshooting experience
  • Allen-Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, SLC 500)
  • DeltaV DCS systems
  • Burner Management Systems (BMS)
  • Data historians (e.g., AVEVA PI) and CMMS platforms (e.g., Maximo)
  • Continuous improvement methodologies

Key Responsibilities

  • Support preventative, corrective, and project-based electrical & instrumentation maintenance
  • Oversee PLC and DCS systems to ensure reliable plant performance
  • Update control schemes, manage software updates, and support cybersecurity initiatives
  • Maintain environmental compliance systems (CEMS/COMS)
  • Coordinate power distribution during outages or infrastructure maintenance
  • Partner with engineering and IT teams on equipment procurement, data historians, plant communications, and system improvements
  • Mentor and train technicians on controls, troubleshooting, and best practices
  • Support continuous improvement and operational efficiency initiatives

This role requires the ability to work in a physically demanding industrial setting, including confined spaces, elevated work areas, and varying outdoor conditions.
