Job: Head of Engineering

Location: Milan

Salary: €100,000 + bonus + benefits

Piper Maddox are partnered with a well-established and growing international renewable energy IPP who are seeking a Head of Engineering to lead the technical delivery of utility-scale solar and storage projects across Europe.

With a 10GW+ pipeline and an integrated model spanning development, ownership, and operation, this organisation offers the opportunity to play a key role in shaping high-impact clean energy assets from concept through to construction.

The Role

This position will take ownership of engineering strategy and delivery across a portfolio of PV and hybrid PV+BESS projects. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, ensuring designs are optimised for performance, cost, and compliance, while supporting investment decisions through robust technical analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary PV, electrical, civil, and BESS engineering team
• Oversee and approve utility-scale PV and hybrid project design, including key engineering deliverables (SLDs, layouts, protection, cabling)
• Lead energy yield assessments (PVsyst) and optimise plant layouts for performance, cost, and constructability
• Define BESS sizing, architecture, and control strategies across multiple use cases and hybrid configurations
• Manage technical interfaces with OEMs/EPCs, support procurement, and oversee grid studies through to construction and commissioning.

Key Requirements:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• 10+ years’ experience in utility-scale PV and/or BESS
• Strong PVsyst and layout optimisation experience
• Proven leadership of engineering teams
• International project experience is desirable
