Piper Maddox has partnered with a well backed renewable energy business focused on the development, ownership, and operation of grid-scale energy storage projects across the United States.

With a rapidly expanding pipeline of utility-scale battery storage assets across key markets such as PJM, the business is playing a critical role in supporting grid reliability and the energy transition. As project execution ramps up, they are continuing to scale their on-site construction capabilities.

As part of this growth, they are looking to bring on a Construction Manager (Contract) to support the delivery of a live energy storage project based in Manassas, Virginia. This role will be focused on site execution, contractor oversight, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

As a Construction Manager, you will act as the on-site representative, overseeing day-to-day construction activities while ensuring alignment across contractors, safety standards, and project milestones. There is flexibility for this role to lean toward a more HSE-focused profile depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day construction activities across an active utility-scale BESS project site
  • Act as the on-site representative, coordinating with EPC contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders
  • Ensure full compliance with safety standards, site procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain a strong field presence, conducting site inspections, audits, and enforcing safe work practices
  • Monitor project progress against schedule, budget, and key milestones
  • Support commissioning activities, particularly within PJM requirements
  • Implement and enforce LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures where applicable
  • Identify construction risks, troubleshoot issues, and drive corrective actions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure successful project delivery

Experience Required

  • 5+ years of experience in construction management within renewable energy or energy infrastructure
  • Experience supporting utility-scale projects (BESS, solar, or related) through construction and commissioning
  • Strong understanding of construction execution within PJM markets is highly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with commissioning processes
  • Familiarity with LOTO procedures
  • OSHA certifications
  • Strong ability to manage contractors and enforce safety and quality standards on-site
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills
