Title: Manager, Environmental Permitting

Location: Hybrid | Western United States (Denver, CO or Scottsdale, AZ preferred)

About the Role

We’re partnering with a leading renewable energy developer to hire a Manager, Environmental Permitting to support a large and growing utility‑scale solar, wind, and energy storage portfolio across the Western U.S.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead discretionary permitting and environmental compliance for utility‑scale renewable projects across the Western U.S.
• Develop and execute permitting strategies, including schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation plans.
• Manage entitlement processes with local, state, and federal agencies, including ongoing interaction with planning boards and regulatory bodies.
• Oversee and coordinate external consultants conducting biological, cultural, and environmental surveys, as well as documentation required for permitting and financing.
• Review and support permitting diligence for project acquisition and financing, ensuring alignment with lender and tax equity requirements.
• Partner with development teams to assess zoning, wetlands, biological constraints, floodplains, and other site‑specific considerations.
• Support stakeholder engagement efforts and address agency or community concerns that arise during the permitting process.
• Identify creative development approaches to reduce permitting risk and optimize project timelines.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, land use planning, or a related field (Master’s preferred, not required)
• 5+ years of experience in renewable energy development, environmental consulting, or a related field
• Proven experience leading complex discretionary permitting for large infrastructure or energy projects
• Strong background in federal permitting, including NEPA and federal land processes (e.g., BLM, Forest Service)
• Experience coordinating with agencies such as state wildlife authorities, the Army Corps of Engineers, and other regulators

Nice to Have

• Experience with CEQA, NEPA, SEPA, or Colorado 1041 processes
• Familiarity with USFWS, Endangered Species Act permitting, MBTA, wetlands, and mitigation strategies
• Prior involvement in projects through financing and construction readiness
• Experience supporting renewable projects on federal land

Location & Work Model:

• Preferred: Denver, CO or Scottsdale, AZ
• Hybrid: 2 days per week in office
• 20% Travel primarily to project sites and regulatory meetings

Competitive compensation:

• $150k - $170k base depending on experience
• 22.5% annual bonus + development bonus tied to project performance
