About the Role

Our client is seeking a Senior Nuclear Engineer to play a critical role in advanced reactor design, analysis, and safety evaluation within a highly technical, mission‑driven organization. This position sits at the intersection of reactor physics, thermal‑hydraulics, and nuclear safety, offering meaningful influence over design decisions, regulatory deliverables, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, sound engineering judgement, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. This role may include technical leadership, mentoring, and project ownership, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform complex nuclear engineering analyses across areas such as:
  • Reactor physics and core performance
  • Neutronics and criticality
  • Thermal‑hydraulics and heat transfer
  • Safety and transient analysis (LOCA and non‑LOCA)
  • Shielding, radiation dose, and containment response
  • Develop, validate, and maintain high‑fidelity analytical and simulation models
  • Perform and review detailed engineering calculations, reports, and safety evaluations
  • Support design basis development, licensing documentation, and regulatory engagements
  • Interface with cross‑functional teams including mechanical, electrical, I&C, operations, and regulatory engineers
  • Provide technical guidance, peer review, and mentorship to less‑experienced engineers
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of engineering methods, procedures, and analysis pipelines
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • 7+ years of professional experience in nuclear engineering, reactor analysis, or nuclear safety
  • Strong foundation in reactor physics, neutron transport, and/or thermal‑hydraulics
  • Demonstrated experience performing and reviewing complex engineering analyses
  • Proficiency with industry‑standard analysis tools such as:
  • MCNP, SCALE, SERPENT, OpenMC, CASMO, PARCS
  • TRACE, RELAP, MELCOR, VIPRE, or similar codes
  • Solid understanding of nuclear safety principles and regulatory expectations
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage priorities, and exercise sound engineering judgement

Preferred / Differentiating Experience

  • Master’s or PhD in Nuclear Engineering or related field
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more areas such as:
  • Safety analysis and licensing
  • Reactor operations or core design
  • Shielding and radiation protection
  • Instrumentation & controls (I&C)
  • Fuel design or reload analysis
  • Experience supporting NRC or DOE licensing activities
  • High‑performance computing or advanced simulation workflows
  • Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading technical projects
  • Background in innovative reactor concepts, advanced reactors, or new nuclear development programs
