We are looking for a Process Engineer:

Join our team as a Process Engineer, where you will play a pivotal role in the scaling and optimization of our manufacturing processes for better efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Your responsibilities will include designing processes, troubleshooting, and leading project management efforts. Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be key in implementing innovative improvements that drive operational excellence.

As a Process Engineer, you will work to refine manufacturing processes for enhanced productivity, quality, and safety. Identifying opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements will be essential, along with monitoring and analyzing process data to foster continuous advancement. Ensuring all activities comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards will also be a critical aspect of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Analyze and Evaluate: Conduct detailed assessments of existing manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement and recommend effective solutions.
  2. Process Optimization: Design and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times, and improve product quality.
  3. Team and Project Leadership: Lead the engineering projects working on the operational and scale-up projects, including system upgrades and process automation initiatives;
  4. Collaboration: Work closely with scale-up, production and R&D teams to create a scalable and industrial process and standardize SOPs.
  5. Performance Tracking: Monitor and analyze key metrics such as cycle time, yield, and scrap rates, developing strategies to achieve performance targets.
  6. Technical Support: Provide expertise in troubleshooting and resolving process-related issues. Lead the equipment procurement and the technical discussion with potential suppliers.
  7. Commissioning and Validation: Lead the equipment commissioning and process validation activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and proper documentation of protocols.
  8. Problem Solving and Troubleshooting: Participate in cross-functional teams to conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  9. Training: Offer training and support to production teams for the adoption and operation of new processes, procedures, and equipment.
  10. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on advancements in process engineering technologies and methodologies, incorporating best practices into ongoing operations.
  11. Safety and compliance: Follow health and safety protocols in alignment with industry standards and regulations. Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to mitigate potential hazards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Master degree in Engineering, chemical, mechanical, industrial, bioprocessing, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering, chemistry, biotechnology or similar manufacturing environment.
  • A deep understanding of process design and engineering
  • Skilled in developing in startup and scaling a factory from pilot phase to full production.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth understanding of process optimization, lean manufacturing. Capex and Opex estimation. Strong technical knowledge of production equipment and systems.
  • Analytical Proficiency: Skilled in process analysis, modeling, statistical analysis, and simulation tools.
  • Problem-Solving, Troubleshooting, and Critical-thinking Skills: Exceptional ability to identify and resolve complex process challenges using analytical and innovative approaches. Help with equipment troubleshooting.
  • Safety and Compliance: Familiarity with process safety principles, risk assessment procedures, and adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders. Speaks English fluently and professionally.
  • Multitasking Ability: Capability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Project Management: Proven expertise in task prioritization, project planning, and execution within tight deadlines.

Preferred Skills:

  • Biomaterials/Construction industry knowledge/Mycelium.
  • Certifications: Professional credentials in process engineering or associated training certifications to validate specialized skills.
  • Automation and Control Systems: Hands-on experience with process automation technologies.
  • Technical Tools: Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g. Aspen or SuproPro Designer) and CAD tools (e.g. Fusion 360, AutoCAD) for designing and analyzing processes. Product economics.
  • Quality Systems Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of quality management systems, including adherence to ISO standards.

Work Environment:

This position requires someone that would be available to travel to our factory in Montemor-o-Novo occasionally. Some travel may be required to support multiple sites or vendor collaboration.
